Open Lavs is a sister project to FiveforFive - a collective fund for trans women, transfem people and the organisations that support us. Both projects come from the same belief: that trans and gender-diverse people deserve to move through the world with safety and dignity.
Finding a toilet that you can use without worrying should be one of the most basic things. For many trans and/or non-binary people, particularly trans women and transfem people, this simply isn't the case.
Open Lavs was born out of a love for our extended queer family. Too many times have we've had to change plans because there’s no lav we could use in a pub, cinema, restaurant or cafe that caters towards us.
In 2026, with all the disgusting policing of bodies and expressions, and the worsening of trans people's safety whilst in public, something like Open Lavs seems more essential than ever.
Open Lavs crowdsources real, verified locations (pubs, cafés, libraries, museums, community spaces, etc) where genuinely inclusive toilets are available. It is free to use and free to contribute to.
